Away for a While

Hello blogger friends!

Time is a tyrant, as well as the everyday personal tasks. It has been a while since I wrote last time on my tiny blog. It should be a book blog, with some book reviews. Unfortunately last year I wrote here only a few reviews of the books I read. Anyway if you are curious you can find my 2017 book reviews here

But what about my New Year resolutions?

1) writing at least one post on my beloved tiny book blog once a month

2) painting at least two paintings using different techniques

3) having a walk once a week

4) taking some pictures to be posted here and to contribute to my favourite challanges

5) reading my favourite blogs at least once a month and leaving a lot of likes on my favourite pages and posts + reading at least 25 books (sipping them)

6) trying… to be happy and serene again!

WHAT DID I DO LAST YEAR?

My summer flew by. I had a great time in central Italy, where I had the chance to visit unbelievable and forgotten places. If I’ll have the chance I will write about it and post some magic photos. In September I got a permanent position at the local High School, which was a great surprise to me. I cried because it had been my dream since ever. In October I also got an extra position at the evening classes. In November I had a short break in Palermo (Sicily, Italy) with two faboulous colleages.  We had a great time at our friend Laura, always the best. In December... at Christmas all the family was sick and had the worst Christmas ever! Anyway. It is now time to start again.

Hope you are all well and you are reading a wonderful book

I Think Too Much

Due to my job, I am facing a tough time but I have recognized I couldn’t go on like complaining all time, I wanted my “old” me back. Once I wasn’t thaaat anxious, once I didn’t care so much about what people thought about me and my actions, as long they weren’t mean and I was respectful, once I had a greater self-esteem.  But now. It seems life with all the inevitable obstacles and difficulties has knocked me down. Personally, I have accepted I am quite naive and vulnerable, excessively sensitive, and that I would like to fix all difficult situations, hoping Mary Poppins could give me her magic handbag.

So what better that going to my best friends? Books! I usually find all answers I need in books. While I was skimming around  amazon.it site in search of the best books that could have given me the right advice, I saw the following book cover  (don’t you like it? )

30369518

How to transform anxiety and emotivity in winning cards. That is the subtitle. Except the original version title in French is

JE PENSE TROP

I THINK TOO MUCH

So, this is why I purchased it in the original version that you can see here below. Link to the book HERE. However, before starting reading this ( I really think too much and that is why I sometimes ruin my days) that I want to read at the end of the school year, I read another book of the same author “Saying no and establishing yourself”. Link HERE

Mistery of the publishing business: this book has been translated into Korean, Spanish, Italian, Russian… and not English.  What a pity!  This thin book really has helped me to find some answers and given me some useful clues to face life and difficult situations. I was struck by one sentence, which I try to translate into English: “There is no defeat. Defeat is inside your head. Defeat is a subjective point of view. Start thinking from another perspective“. Afterwards I read this book “Short manual for vulnerable people: how to create your shield and be serene again“. Link HERE Another publishing mistery.  Anyway, what the author says it to consider ourselves always in a positive way, don’t listen to our inner criticism and complaining. And then, to live in peace and feel relaxed and stressless, live a simple life. That means, enjoying what we really love and care of, this could be possible only if we are able to focus on what we really care of. Sometimes, people are so deep into their jobs, that they really can’t see what is the best for them, what they used to really love. And finally, taking some short breaks every day: a walk, gardening,  reading some book pages, knitting, doodling… in spite of our lack of time. This is just an excuse.

Here below the books cover.

I just end with the famous Eleanor Roosevelt quote, which I have just drawn with some inspiration from Pinterest.

Sleep well and be happy again with a simple life and a good shield!

My Brilliant Friend ~ by Elena Ferrante

Undeniably a great novel, really well written. It develops the story of two friends, Elena and Lila. Everything is told by Elena, the narrator. So it is always her point of view on the matters. Naples becomes an universal place where I believe everyone can identify himself/herself, that is why for me this series has become so worldwide acclaimed.
I won’t spoil the story itself, as you know it is a story that goes on in other 3 novels. However, shame on me, even if I can’t deny the power of this writer (I read it in Italian) her astonishing way of representing the everyday life in poor suburban Neapolitan areas, of so many women, their conditions, their struggles, their fragilities, their strength… well, despite everything I couldn’t get involved with or love both Elena or Lila. I think I will listen to the audiobooks of the other 3 novels, during the summer while lying on the beach just to know where Lila has gone. At the age of 66.

RATING: 7/10📖📖📖📖📖📖📖

GENRE: contemporary fiction/ bildungsroman/ Romance?

BOOK DETAILS: Link to book details on  Amazon.com  ~  Amazon.it

MAIN CHARACTERS: Elena Greco and Lila (Raffaella) Cerullo and their families and friends.

SETTING : Naples – Italy,  poor suburbs

POINT OF VIEW: Elena  – first person narrator

HOW I MET THIS BOOK: I gave it as a present, just because I had read many reviews about it, each one with a praise.  Then one of my friends, Giulia (a talented writer, I really hope she will publish her book sooner or later), Giulia gave it to me as a present last September.

ADDRESS TO THE AUTHOR:

I don’t know who you are, you won’t even read my modest review,  however I believe you are a great inner connoisseur of the female world. No one can do better, and put it down on page.
