Things I am looking forward to

Thank you Cee!

Complete this sentence: I’m looking forward to…. SUNDAY. ONE OF MY FRIENDS IS GETTING A SURPRISE BIRTHDAY PARTY (50!). I really hope it is a surprise.

What is your favorite comfort snack food? Well… cornflakes. But really special ones. I start with basic flakes (which I usually buy in Austria,  where you can get the best ones), then I add some dark bitter chocolate pieces, then some sultana raisins, then some red cherries, and finally on top of everything some honey and just a bit of milk. Delicious! It ALLLWAYS CHEERS ME UP.

What was one of your first moneymaking jobs (other than babysitting or newspaper delivery)? When I was writing my dissertation in 1998 I worked for a whole year in Austria as Italianisch Sprachenassistentin. The time of my life!

What inspired you or what did you appreciate this past week?  Feel free to use a quote, a photo, a story, or even a combination.

I was really inspired by a book. Where I once again understood the teacher I will never be. This is the book, it has been translated into English: Listen to my heart by Bianca Pitzorno.

‘One of Bianca Pitzorno’s best known novels. With a strict new teacher and war going on daily at school, life in class 4D is very messy. But war is not the only topic: there is also love, betrayal, miracle turtles, skeletons, motorcycles, Austrian generals, ghosts, picture stories readers and velvet panthers. An intensely lived school year, with not a single moment to waste. Seventy three chapters to read all at a time, or to savour one by one like episodes of an irreverent soap opera.’

Do you push the elevator button more than once?  Do you really believe it makes the elevator faster?

Maybe it is because there are not so many elevators where I live, I have never really thought about it. I guess I can’t remember when it was the last time I took an elevator. But I believe I push the button only once.

Do you plan out things usually or do you do them more spontaneous (for example if you are visiting a big city you don’t know?)

Well, I am not obsessed by details and the planning. However,  I don’t really like when I am totally unprepared.  So I prefer to jot down a “scaffolding ” idea of a “to do or to see” list. Then, once I am on a plane or  a car, I am aware that something will not go as expected, and I find myself strangely relaxed and in the hands of destiny,  but with no anxiety.  This is so not typically of me when I am at home. It seems a different me pops out when  I travel.

Describe yourself in at least four uplifting words.

OK.  I am honest, I need to think about it.

1 – naive (in a positive way, i.e. genuine)

2 – creative

3 – good listener

4 – extremely curious

If you had a choice which would be your preference salt water beaches, fresh water lakes, ocean cruise, hot tub, ski resort or desert?

Fresh water lakes. Possibly in my beloved Italian or Austrian Alps. It is every time a Sound of music atmosphere to me.

Optional Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?

Grateful I am alive.  Looking forward a school trip to Rome… and hope to survive it!

Back to you – Back to SYW

After a long long time (due to work, family and the usual issues) I am back for a SYW and also for sharing some photos I took today in Chioggia, a tiny village near Venice, so called little Venice, where I’ve just discovered the oldest tower clock in the world! Such amazing treasures near my home  and I didn’t know it. But this is another story, new blog posts will follow in the next days or weeks. Let’s start with Cee’s SYW now 😉

Here are my answers:

Ever ran out of gas in your vehicle?

To be honest I almost run out of gas every week, but I manage to arrive to the next petrol station and be safe for another week. I believe once it will happen to me too, to totally run out of gas. Till then, I’ll keep on being positive and believe my gas is infinite…

Which are better: black or green olives?

Even if I am Italian, I really don’t like olives. Green or black.

If you were a great explorer, what would you explore?

I would explore the North Pole and wait to see amazing boreal auroras. That is also my dream… I believe I won’t be able to fulfill it, however a dream is always a dream.
